8 policemen killed in gunmen attack in Pakistan

Gunmen have attacked a local checkpoint in southwestern Pakistan, killing at least eight tribal police, authorities say.The deadly assault took place on Sunday in the Waadh area of Khuzdar district, some 350 kilometers (217 miles) southwest of Quetta, the capital of resource-rich Balochistan Province.“Gunmen attacked the checkpost early in the morning and shot dead eight tribal police officials, known as Levies,” provincial home secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani said.Meanwhile, Baroz Khan, a senior government official said officers manning the post returned fire and pushed the gunmen back toward nearby mountains, adding that reinforcements from the paramilitary Frontier Corps later reached the post.No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
