Blasts rock open market in northwestern China, casualties reported


A number of explosions have rocked the capital of China’s northwestern region of Xinjiang. No casualties have so far been confirmed, but photos allegedly taken at the scene show a number of people lying on the ground with others helping the injured.The explosions occurred at around 8am on at an open market in Urumqi, capital of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, witnesses told Xinhua.It was not clear yet whether there were casualties in the blast, Xinhua reports, adding that the blasts began when two “cross-country vehicles” plowed into crowds of people, and explosives were thrown from them. Witnesses quoted by Xinhua said that one of the vehicles had exploded in the market, while there had been some dozen explosive blasts in total.
