Kenyan police clash with students at Nairobi demo


Kenyan police forces have clashed with students protesting an increase to tuition fees in the capital Nairobi.Tuesday’s demonstration turned violent after police fired tear gas at the students who reacted by hurling stones.”We have arrested over a hundred of them but some have been released,” Nairobi police official Paul Wanjama said.Police forces also stormed the University of Nairobi’s main campus, shooting tear gas and breaking down classroom doors.Nairobi police chief Benson Kibue defended the crackdown by its forces, saying, “In any demonstration, you must do it in such a way as not to interrupt or interfere with the activities of other Kenyans. When you cause an obstruction or instill fear among bystanders, then that ceases to be a peaceful demonstration.”
