Afghan, Pakistani forces clash along border


Afghan and Pakistani forces have exchanged fire along the border between their countries, local officials have confirmed.Afghan officials say the clash erupted early Thursday after Pakistani forces entered the Afghan territory and opened fire with heavy weapons in the town of Maruf in the southern province of Kandahar.The Pakistani troops reportedly wanted to create check posts on Afghanistan’s soil.“The clash was provoked by Pakistan as they tried to enter Afghan soil to establish military installments,” provincial police chief Abdul Raziq said.Another provincial police chief, Ahmad Zia Durani, also confirmed that the Afghan security forces are on alert to respond to Pakistani fire.
