Yemeni troops kill Qaeda’s Chechen commander


Yemeni troops have killed five al-Qaeda members during a major operation in the south of the country, among them a commander with Chechen links.According to Yemeni authorities, Abu Islam al-Shishai who had fought against Russian forces in Chechnya before moving to Yemen is the second commander killed since the beginning of a military offensive against al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) last week.Shishani was killed “during military operations… against terrorist elements in Abyan” province, said a statement posted on Defense Ministry website.Yemeni forces last week launched a large-scale operation to flush al-Qaeda militants out of southern towns of the impoverished Arab country.
