Afghan forces kill 49 Taliban militants


Nearly 50 Taliban militants and five Afghan soldiers have been killed in an attack by the Taliban in the country’s eastern province of Paktia, an official says.General Mohammad Zahir Azimi, an Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman, said Tuesday in a post on his Twitter account that the clashes began early Monday and lasted until early Tuesday morning some 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of the capital, Kabul.“More than 500 insurgents attacked army after an operation was launched in Paktia Province. 49 militants and five soldiers had been killed,” Azimi stated.The general added that six soldiers were injured and another was captured in the clashes. Azimi also said several foreign militants were involved in the attack.
